The input may contain leading spaces. Right now, when leading spaces are there, they are not counted.

I have a problem where I need to append few spaces(say 10 spaces) for each line in a file whose length is say(100 chars) and others leave as it is.

Required o/p file:
"abc (Value + blank spaces=16) " ,"efg (Value +blank spaces=15) " ,"xyz (Value+ blank spaces =20) "
In short input file value stores in result file with " i/p Value " added with spaces and are of fixed size like 16,15,20

Hello, could you please help with this one. I have an input file like this:

and for the output I need strings to be with the fixed length, let's say 15, and if the string is -lt 15 to be populated with blanks at the end until it reach 15, like this:

NAME
tomoyo-loadpolicy - load TOMOYO Linux manually
SYNOPSIS
tomoyo-loadpolicy [option]
tomoyo-loadpolicy [option] [remote_ip:remote_port]
DESCRIPTION
This program reads TOMOYO Linux policy from standard input and loads it into the kernel.
OPTIONS
-e Append to /sys/kernel/security/tomoyo/exception_policy.
-ef Overwrite /sys/kernel/security/tomoyo/exception_policy.
-d Append to /sys/kernel/security/tomoyo/domain_policy.
-df Overwrite /sys/kernel/security/tomoyo/domain_policy.
-m Append to /sys/kernel/security/tomoyo/manager.
-p Append to /sys/kernel/security/tomoyo/profile.
-s Append to /sys/kernel/security/tomoyo/stat.
remote_ip:remote_port
Write to policy on a remote system via an agent waiting at port remote_port on IP address remote_ip.
EXAMPLES
Append a line to exception policy
echo "acl_group 0 file read proc:/meminfo" | tomoyo-loadpolicy -e
Remove a line from exception policy
echo "delete acl_group 0 file read proc:/meminfo" | tomoyo-loadpolicy -e
Append a line to domain policy
