Maybe it is just me, but somehow this doesn't fit together.
Second, i didn't say you should issue "fuser -u /opt" - i said you should consult the man page. This would have told you that you should direct your query against the device (just like i said in post #8). In your case, if you look for processes on "/dev/hd2 mounted at "/usr" (which i am not sure about any more):
If you get just back just the name of the device this means there are no processes working on this device, that is all.
I'm cross-posting from the "Unix for Dummies Q&A" forum as I didn't get any response there.
I'm wanting to drill down one level deeper from iostat. For example, for the following iostat output, I'd like to now understand the io for hdisk2 by filesystem:

Is there a way to monitor certain processes and if they hang too long to kill them, but certain scripts which are expected to take a long time to let them go?
Thank you

Hi
Is there an easy way to identify and group currently running processes into OS processes and APP processes. Not all applications are installed as packages.
Any free tools or scripts to do this?
Many thanks. (2 Replies)

I had issues with processes locking up. This script checks for processes and kills them if they are older than a certain time.
Its uses some functions you'll need to define or remove, like slog() which I use for logging, and is_running() which checks if this script is already running so you can... (0 Replies)
Hi,
I wanted to find out that in my database server which filesystems are shared storage and which filesystems are local. Like when I use df -k, it shows "filesystem" and "mounted on" but I want to know which one is shared and which one is local.
Please tell me the commands which I can run... (2 Replies)
