I want to make shell script that takes a list of host names on my network as command line arguments and displays whether the hosts are up or down, using the ping command to display the status of a host and a for loop to process all the host names. Dear all,
I'm have a sorted array like this:
177
220
1001
2000
2001
2003
2005
notice that 2002 and 2004 are NOT in array.
Then user input a number INPUT, our script should return OUTPUT value like this:
if INPUT is not in array => OUTPUT=INPUT

Just one question for bash shell script.
In bash script, you can use *.txt to call any files in current folder that ends with .txt, like
rm *.txt
will remove all txt file in current folder.
My question is can you actually remember or use the file name among *.txt, I know file=*.txt will not... (9 Replies)

I want search each item in a database and the existing parts should go to FOUND folder and the others should go to NOTFOUND folder.

Hi,
i am a beginner in ubuntu. my default shell is bash. everytime i try to change the shell with command "csh", i get a message (probably an error message). after i get into c-shell, when i try to execute a c shellscript, then it showed the same message. any idea about what is this about or any... This package provides a few utility commands to convert characters into various forms. API
::page::util::quote::unquote char A character, as stored in an abstract syntax tree by a PEG processor (See the packages grammar::peg::interpreter, grammar::me, and their relations), i.e. in some quoted form, is converted into the equivalent Tcl character. The character is returned as the result of the command. ::page::util::quote::quote'tcl char This command takes a Tcl character (internal representation) and converts it into a string which is accepted by the Tcl parser, will regenerate the character in question and is 7bit ASCII. The string is returned as the result of this command. ::page::util::quote::quote'tclstr char This command takes a Tcl character (internal representation) and converts it into a string which is accepted by the Tcl parser and will generate a human readable representation of the character in question. The string is returned as the result of this command. The string does not use any unprintable characters. It may use backslash-quoting. High UTF characters are quoted to avoid problems with the still prevalent ascii terminals. It is assumed that the string will be used in a double-quoted environment. ::page::util::quote::quote'tclcom char This command takes a Tcl character (internal representation) and converts it into a string which is accepted by the Tcl parser when used within a Tcl comment.
