Do you just want to add the current YYYYMM to a file whenever the script runs?

Something like:

FILENAME=whatever.txt
DATESTR=$(date +%Y%m)
grep $DATESTR "$FILENAME" > /dev/null || echo $DATESTR >> "$FILENAME"

(Assuming it's always going to be added at the end)
