"Officially" the H50 supports AIX, nothing else. Linux might work (even though it is not supported by IBM, thats the "official" part) and maybe some BSD variant (none of which i have experience with, YOYO*) ) will do, but nothing of these is guaranteed to work. At the time the system was built and sold the open source software was perceived (by the managers) more as a nuisance which will go away if one closes the eyes hard enough.
I have seen countless web servers with critical documentation and/or services or other very useful systems sit peacefully under someones desk running some Linux. Usually, sooner or later the managers got word about this, shutting it down immediately and "migrating" the service to one of their official Windoze-IIS-blabla hosts, where it usually ran on ten times the resources with about 10% of the service still usable. In most cases, after some time passed, a scrap machine with some Linux was built under someones desk and brought to do what was really needed.
Well, i don't want to bore you with my stories of yore. You probably understand by now why for your system Linux (and other alternative OSes) are not really documented with How-Tos and/or similar documents.
I hope this helps.

I am trying to find PCI Ethernet cards that are compatible with the IBM RISC 6000 - B50 Power PC. None of the regular NIC's seem to have AIX drivers. Does anyone know of AIX drivers for standard PCI Ethernet NIC's or a non IBM NIC that works with the Model B50 at 10/100 MB ? (0 Replies)

Hi all,
I have a H50 server in a remote location and the cron has the power failure line entered. There is nothing in errpt so I suspect this may have been added some time ago.
How can I determine the status of the power supplies remotely?

dc(4) Kernel Interfaces Manual dc(4)
Name
dc - serial line/mouse/keyboard
Syntax
device dc0 at ibus? vector dcintr
Description
The serial line controller provides four ports, with modem control on two of the ports. The DECstation 3100 and DECstation 2100 only pro-
vide partial modem control. The DECstation 5000 provides full modem control. The ports are used as follows:
Port Usage
0 Graphics device keyboard at 4800 BPS
1 Mouse or tablet at 4800 BPS
2 Communications port 1 (w/modem control)/local terminal
3 Communications port 2 (w/modem control)/local terminal
Each communication port from the serial line controller behaves as described in and can be set to run at any of 16 speeds. For the encod-
ing, see
When a graphics device is not being used as the system console, communications port 2 becomes the system console. In this configuration,
the port can only be used at 9600 BPS and no modem control is supported.
The serial line driver operates in interrupt-per-character mode (all pending characters are flushed from the silo on each interrupt).
Restrictions
Speed must be set to 9600 BPS on the console port and 4800 BPS on ports used by graphics devices. The serial line driver enforces this
restriction; that is, changing speeds with the command may not always work on these ports.
