I am synchronizing some files on 2 hosts.
host2 is a backup server of host1, but can have some more up to date files.
I use on host2:
Option -u (update) will copy and replace the newest files from host2 to host1.
Before this is done I would like to make copies of older files on host1.
In other words: I would like to archive and keep older versions files from host1. This has to be done just before they are about to be replaced by the rsync -u command with newest files from host2.
A bit like git would keep track of old versions of files.
Is there an option with rsync to do that?
Many thanks for your inputs!
Cheers,

the --delete option says "delete files that don't exist on the sending side"
Does this mean and only mean that it will delete files from the DESTINATION that DON'T EXIST on the sending side? (2 Replies)

Hi all,
I am parsing command line options using getopts.
The problem is that mandatory argument options following ":" is taking next option as argument if it is not followed by any argument.
Below is the script:

do
case "$opt" in

To find all the files in your home directory that have been edited in some way since the last tar file, use this command:
find . -newer backup.tar.gz
Is anyone familiar with an older solution?
looking to identify files older then 15mins across several directories.

Hi
I would like to ask if rsync has an option of backing up the new or updated files on different destination dir( only the new or updated files will be copied to the a different dir) just like option --backup-dir but this is for backup files.
Thanks for any response. (1 Reply)
Hi everyone!
I wonder about the rsync. The purpose I just want:
synchronization from server 1 to server 2 by rsync, example:
Node 1: /app/logs/*
Node 2: /app/logs/*
in Node 1 when I used rsync -aru /app/logs/ node2:/app/logs/, then everything will be copied and update to node 2. But,... (1 Reply)

Hi,

hwloc-assembler-remote - Assemble multiple remote host topologies
SYNOPSIS
hwloc-assembler-remote [options] output.xml host1 host2 ...
OPTIONS --ssh <ssh>
Use the given ssh command (and options) to connect to remote hosts.
--lstopo-path <path>
Use the given path as the remote lstopo command when gathering remote topologies. By default, lstopo is taken from the PATH envi-

--lstopo-opts <opts>
Pass the given lstopo options when gathering remote topologies.
--show Display the resulting topology before exit.
-v --verbose
Verbose messages.
DESCRIPTION
hwloc-assembler-remote is a frontend to hwloc-assembler. It takes care of retrieving the remote nodes' topologies before assembling them
with hwloc-assembler.
EXAMPLES
To assemble three nodes topologies:
$ hwloc-assembler-remote output.xml host1 host2 host3
To assemble the topology of a multi-process MPI job defined as a machinefile:
$ hwloc-assembler-remote output.xml `cat machinefile | sort | uniq`
RETURN VALUE
Upon successful execution, hwloc-assembler-remote returns 0.
hwloc-assembler-remote will return nonzero if any kind of error occurs, such as (but not limited to) failure to parse the command line.
