What do you mean by your own yyyymmdd format? just pass the output of this to sed that you have written it can be simplified however you have worked on it so you can keep it that way

I have script in unix which creates a julian date like 126 or 127
I want convert this julian date into calender date
ex : input 127
output 07/may/2007 or 07/05/2007 or 07/05/07

for this i am converting dates into no using synatx

v2=`date | awk '{print $2,$3,$4}'`
v3=`date +%s -d "$v2"`
this syntax is working in bash shell ,but fails in ksh shell.

Igawk is a simple shell script that adds the ability to have ``include files'' to gawk(1).
AWK programs for igawk are the same as for gawk, except that, in addition, you may have lines like
@include getopt.awk
in your program to include the file getopt.awk from either the current directory or one of the other directories in the search path.
