That's not the problem. XLC is just as valid for Linux as for AIX. I have been using XLC for years on Linux without getting this error. Makefiles that I write do not get this message. I'm thinking that the configuration file used for gcc/xlc option compatibility may be the culprit. However, I'm not familiar enough with this feature to narrow it down more.

UNIX patches with incompatible packages
