Script with ^M causes display issue with cat or more
I have a script to do a couple simple but repetitive commands on files that are provided to us. One of the things is to get rid of the line feeds. This is the section that is causing problems, i even cut this section into its own file to make sure nothing else was affecting it.
Code:
#!/usr/bin/bash
ls File_Name_* |while read FN
     do
          sed 's/^M//' ${FN} > ${FN}.tmp     ### the ^M is input with ^v^M
          mv ${FN}.tmp ${FN}
     done

It works fine and shows up fine in vi. but if i try to cat or more the file it shows

#!/usr/bin/bash
ls File_Name_* |while read FN
do
//' ${FN} > ${FN}.tmp/
                       mv ${FN}.tmp ${FN}
     done

Oh if i usr /usr/xpg4/bin/more it shows it all except the ^M itself:

          sed 's///' ${FN} > ${FN}.tmp     ### the ^M is input with ^v^M
          mv ${FN}.tmp ${FN}
     done

Can someone explain this. The ^M is affecting the display of the file and i have never seen this before. This is on a Solaris 9 system.

       Locale::Script - standard codes for script identification

SYNOPSIS

	  use Locale::Script;

	  $script  = code2script('phnx');		      # 'Phoenician'

				 LOCALE_CODE_NUMERIC);	      # 115

DESCRIPTION

       The "Locale::Script" module provides access to standards codes used for identifying scripts, such as those defined in ISO 15924.

       Most of the routines take an optional additional argument which specifies the code set to use. If not specified, the default ISO 15924
       four-letter codes will be used.

SUPPORTED CODE SETS

       There are several different code sets you can use for identifying scripts. The ones currently supported are:

       alpha
	   This is a set of four-letter (capitalized) codes from ISO 15924 such as 'Phnx' for Phoenician.

	   This code set is identified with the symbol "LOCALE_SCRIPT_ALPHA".

	   The Zxxx, Zyyy, and Zzzz codes are not used.

	   This is the default code set.

       numeric
	   This is a set of three-digit numeric codes from ISO 15924 such as 115 for Phoenician.

	   This code set is identified with the symbol "LOCALE_SCRIPT_NUMERIC".
