Essentially, the difference between {1..9999999999}, and loops like for((X=1; X<=9999999999; X++)) is

{1..9999999999} generates a giant list of every single number between 1 and 9999999999. It has to calculate them all in advance, and keep them all in memory simultaneously.

The other loop doesn't. It just keeps adding 1 to the same number.

Your sed loops and the like compound the problem, by forcing your program to read the entire file every loop just to get a single line...

Script run everytime a new terminal window is opened

I created a script called title #!/bin/sh echo "^0;$*^G" It will change the terminal window titlebar to what ever I type after the script (title BIG would change titlebar to BIG instead of terminal) Is there a way to make it run so it will work on every terminal window that gets opened.... Is it possible to toggle back and forth between an xterm invoked from one tty, and a shell invoked from a different tty? I am running Centos 7 with KDE and booting in non-graphic mode. NAME

       ppmtopgm - convert a portable pixmap into a portable graymap

SYNOPSIS

       ppmtopgm [ppmfile]

DESCRIPTION

       Reads  a  portable  pixmap  as  input.  Produces a portable graymap as output.  The output is a "black and white" rendering of the original
       image, as in a black and white photograph.  The quantization formula used is .299 r + .587 g + .114 b.

       Note that although there is a pgmtoppm program, it is not necessary for simple conversions from pgm to ppm , because any  ppm  program  can
       read  pgm  (and	pbm  ) files automatically.  pgmtoppm is for colorizing a pgm file.  Also, see ppmtorgb3 for a different way of converting
       color to gray.  And ppmdist generates a grayscale image from a color image, but in a way that makes it easy to differentiate  the  original
       colors, not necessarily a way that looks like a black and white photograph.
