I don't think repeated compression is a good idea. It can lead to file corruption.

I suggest to tar the file first and then apply a bzip2 compression on top of that.
Code:
tar myfilelog.log.tar myfilelog.log
bzip2 myfilelog.log.tar

BTW if you want to create a new file name each time you compress, then here is syntax:-

for i in {1..3}
do
  zip myfilelog.${i}.log myfilelog.log 
done

DESCRIPTION

     These functions set the format that will be used for the archive.

RETURN VALUES

     These functions return ARCHIVE_OK on success, or ARCHIVE_FATAL.

     Detailed error codes and textual descriptions are available from the archive_errno() and archive_error_string() functions.
