Hello there,
I have a script that must be written in bash that has to deal with reading in values from a file (in scientific notation), and requires executing some mathematical operations with them. What is the easiest way to go about doing this/converting it to float to use | bc, etc.?

Hello.
I'm using a file to "grep" in a 2nd one (with awk)
cat file1
2 first user
9 second user
1 third user (with a space after user)
I want to get the line except the 1st field so I do :
field=$(gawk '{$1 =""; print $0}' file | sed 's/^ //')
It works but it deletes... (5 Replies)
I have various numbers that I'm printing out from a statistical summary script. I'd like it to stop using exponential format. Of course, I can use printf with 'd' and 'f' and various parameters to specify a format, but then it has other undesirable effects, like tacking on extra 0's or truncating... (0 Replies)
wondering if anyone has any thoughts to convert the below thru a shell script
Convert decimal signalling point notation to ANSI point code notation
There is a site that does that conversion but i need to implement the solution in a shell script.....Thoughts....

Just a very brief question,
but I have a script written in a C-like language possibly tcl with the line
set var

What is the ** operator? (1 Reply)
hello folks,
I have few values in a log which are in scientific notation.
I am trying to convert into actual decimal format or integer but couldn't able to convert.
Values in scientific notation:
1.1662986666666665E-4
2.0946799999999998E-4
3.0741333333333333E-6

can someone spot what i'm doing wrong here:
awk 'BEGIN{printf("%0.2f", 1 / 2649320) * 100}'
i get this error:
awk: line 1: syntax error at or near *
then i do this and get the answer i'm trying to avoid:
awk 'BEGIN{print(1 / 2649320) * 100}'

Input file:
data1 0.05
data2 1e-14
data1 1e-330
data2 1e-14
data5 2e-60
data5 2e-150
data1 4e-9
Desired output:
data2 1e-14
data1 1e-330
data2 1e-14
data5 2e-60
data5 2e-150
I would like to filter out those result that column 2 is less than 1e-10.

locale::codes::langvar
Locale::Codes::LangVar(3pm) Perl Programmers Reference Guide Locale::Codes::LangVar(3pm)NAME
Locale::Codes::LangVar - standard codes for language variation identification
SYNOPSIS
use Locale::Codes::LangVar;
$lvar = code2langvar('acm'); # $lvar gets 'Mesopotamian Arabic'
$code = langvar2code('Mesopotamian Arabic'); # $code gets 'acm'
@codes = all_langvar_codes();
@names = all_langvar_names();
DESCRIPTION
The "Locale::Codes::LangVar" module provides access to standard codes used for identifying language variations, such as those as defined in
the IANA language registry.
Most of the routines take an optional additional argument which specifies the code set to use. If not specified, the default IANA language
registry codes will be used.
SUPPORTED CODE SETS
There are several different code sets you can use for identifying language variations. A code set may be specified using either a name, or
a constant that is automatically exported by this module.
For example, the two are equivalent:
$lvar = code2langvar('en','alpha-2');
$lvar = code2langvar('en',LOCALE_CODE_ALPHA_2);
The codesets currently supported are:
alpha
This is the set of alphanumeric codes from the IANA language registry, such as 'arevela' for Eastern Armenian.
This code set is identified with the symbol "LOCALE_LANGVAR_ALPHA".
This is the default code set.
ROUTINES
code2langvar ( CODE [,CODESET] )

all_langvar_names ( [CODESET] )

Locale::Codes::LangVar::add_langvar ( CODE ,NAME [,CODESET] )
Locale::Codes::LangVar::delete_langvar ( CODE [,CODESET] )
Locale::Codes::LangVar::add_langvar_alias ( NAME ,NEW_NAME )
Locale::Codes::LangVar::delete_langvar_alias ( NAME )

Locale::Codes::LangVar::add_langvar_code_alias ( CODE ,NEW_CODE [,CODESET] )
Locale::Codes::LangVar::delete_langvar_code_alias ( CODE [,CODESET] )
These routines are all documented in the Locale::Codes::API man page.
