In the above line, I want to get rid of the junk character before the £ (pound sysmbol).

I have been trying to FTP some data files from Windows directory to a UNIX server. The txt file in the windows contails the following data:
"111~XYZ~1~Contact person’s phone number~COMMENTS~~~~"
but the same line is appearing as

I need help removing the last character of every line if it is a certain character. For example I need to get rid of a % character if it is in the last position.
Input:

Output should be:

DESCRIPTION
apertium-preprocess-corpus-lextor is the application responsible for preprocessing the training corpus for the lexical selector training.
OPTIONS
This tool currently has no options.
FILES
These are the kinds of files and directories used with this tool:
data_dir the path to the linguistic data to use.
translation_dir the translation direction to use.
input_file contains a large corpus in raw format.
output_file The file which gets the preprocessed corpus.
