boot solaris cd once again .... after few mins..
it showing how to boot following
1) solaris intractive mode (default)
2)jumpstart installation
3) desktop mode
4)
5)
6) shell
select 6 shell
it boot from shell mode ......
it asking mount /dev/dsk/c0t0d0# yes or no . .. you entered NO
then you mount manually
#mount /dev/dsk/c0t0d0s0 /a directory
it taking long session ...... after it
change to directory ....
cd /a/etc
then edit shadow file
root:ZD4FG45G: LIKE THIS ..... YOU REMOVE ZD4FG45G... save and exit
reboot init6
once you got screen desktop then right click goto terminal ...
create passwd for root ... following cmd
#passwd root
newpasswd:
confirmpasswd:
that's all

if i do an ls -l field *
i can find it.
however at the moment the number of files in the directory are close to 28000 and it returns an

When I modify the file attributes of files and run a ls -l to view the changes everything looks correct, however when I run the init 6 to reboot the server the file attributes devert back to the origininal read only permissions. Any help would be appreciated (2 Replies)

I have a bunch of Solaris systems and for the 8/9 systems, I can type "finger -s 2" to get a list of all users (whether they are logged in or not) and the last time they logged in. install-solaris invokes the Solaris Install program. Depending on graphical capability and available memory at the time of invocation,
install-solaris invokes either a text-based installer or a graphical installer.
The following minimum requirements for physical memory dictate which features are available during installation:
For SPARC machines:
128 MB
Minimum physical memory for all installation types
128 MB
Minimum physical memory required for windowing system
384 MB
Minimum physical memory required for graphical-based installation
For x86 machines:
256 MB
Minimum physical memory for all installation types
