No prompt from Solaris to WinXP Hyperterminal
hi
I am new to unix and have found a SPARCstation 5 in the shed. I'm told by my father that it was working when it was put there about 8 years ago.
It seems to boot up and makes all the right noises, both discs appear to make a noise, the keyboard lights flash etc., etc., but i can't seem to get any visible command/login prompt either on it's monitor or, with its monitor and keyboard disconnected, via a PC (WinXP Pro) attached by what looks from pictures on the web like a null modem cable (the connectors obviously fit but I'm not overly sure this constitutes a 'null modem cable')
i opened Hyperterminal and it seems to suggest it's connected but no sign of a prompt.
Any ideas what to do now? (Please bear in mind I'm very inexperienced, so idiot proof explanations would be very much appreciated)
Thanks
Harry
