So I sorted my file as I was supposed to:
sort -n -r -k 2 -k 1 file1 | uniq > file2
and when I wrote
> cat file2
in the command line, I got what I was expecting, but in the script itself
...
sort -n -r -k 2 -k 1 averages | uniq > temp
cat file2

I need to change all Newline caracters (\12) to Fieldseparator(\34).
tr -A '\12' '\34' <file1> file2
Replace all delete (\177) with Newline (\12)
tr -A '\177' '\12' <file2> file3
Put the name of the file first in all rows.

I was recently come across some code to hopefully learn a little bit about putting Shell commands into PHP application to run on a Linux server. However, I don't understand the command AT ALL... and was wondering if anyone can interpret it:

int stream_copy_to_stream (resource $source, resource $dest, [int $maxlength = -1], [int $offset])
DESCRIPTION
Makes a copy of up to $maxlength bytes of data from the current position (or from the $offset position, if specified) in $source to $dest.
If $maxlength is not specified, all remaining content in $source will be copied.
PARAMETERS

- Maximum bytes to copy
