Hello guys,

here is my problem:

I got a shell script which is called by an external piece of software, the external software is not under my control. The software passes data as an argument to my script like

Code:
./bla.sh 'service;1234567890;ok;hostname;some text here'

I need to pass the data to another piece of software but I need to manipulate the string first.

I need the data to change to this:

service;1234567890;ok;hostname;"some text here"

I tried various seds, IFS & reads but nothing worked...


Can someone of you guys help please?

NAME

       check-hostname - check if sendmail can determine the system's  fully-qualified host name

SYNOPSIS

	/usr/sbin/check-hostname

DESCRIPTION

       The   check-hostname script is a migration aid for sendmail(1M).  This script tries to determine the local host's fully-qualified host name
       (FQHN) in a manner similar to  sendmail(1M). If	check-hostname is able to determine the FQHN of the local host, it reports success. Other-
       wise,  check-hostname reports how to reconfigure the system so that the	FQHN can be properly determined.

       /etc/hosts	       Host name database

       /etc/nsswitch.conf      Name service switch configuration file

       /etc/resolv.conf        Configuration file for name server routines
