Ya I am almost positive its suppose to be set like this. But! I actually found the problem...well at least theoretically.
You were right the \ does work to espace the character it just that something is going wrong somewhere else in my script where it sources something which sets something idk i'll have to look into this.
Thanks

OKay so I figured out the problem but I do not have a solution.
Basically when you do this
it works completely fine, no problems.
BUT! the next time you add a path it will interpret blank spaces as a new variable start.
so if i do
then the previous path formatting gets messed up!

Hi,
Could anyone help me in writing a single line code by either using (sed, awk, perl or whatever) to extract a specific path from the PATH environment variable?
for eg: suppose the PATH is being set as follows
PATH=/usr/bin/:/usr/local/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin/java:/usr/bin/perl3.4

and deleting the trailing whitespaces before and after with that

I do know how we set the PATH variable-

I'm trying to understand why we have written :$PATH in the end above statement. What is it's meaning? (2 Replies)
I have a script like this running under OS X 10.8. The problem arises when the find command encounters a space in the path name. I need the "dir" variable as I'll be extending the script to more general use.
#!/bin/bash

IFS=$(echo)
set dir = "/Users/apta/Library/Mail\... (3 Replies)

atf-sh
ATF-SH(1) BSD General Commands Manual ATF-SH(1)NAME
atf-sh [-s shell] -- interpreter for shell-based test programs
SYNOPSIS
atf-sh script
DESCRIPTION
atf-sh is an interpreter that runs the test program given in script after loading the atf-sh(3) library.
atf-sh is not a real interpreter though: it is just a wrapper around the system-wide shell defined by ATF_SHELL. atf-sh executes the inter-
preter, loads the atf-sh(3) library and then runs the script. You must consider atf-sh to be a POSIX shell by default and thus should not
use any non-standard extensions.
The following options are available:
-s shell Specifies the shell to use instead of the value provided by ATF_SHELL.
ENVIRONMENT
ATF_LIBEXECDIR Overrides the builtin directory where atf-sh is located. Should not be overridden other than for testing purposes.
ATF_PKGDATADIR Overrides the builtin directory where libatf-sh.subr is located. Should not be overridden other than for testing purposes.
ATF_SHELL Path to the system shell to be used in the generated scripts. Scripts must not rely on this variable being set to select a
specific interpreter.
EXAMPLES
Scripts using atf-sh(3) should start with:
#! /usr/bin/env atf-sh
Alternatively, if you want to explicitly choose a shell interpreter, you cannot rely on env(1) to find atf-sh. Instead, you have to hardcode
the path to atf-sh in the script and then use the -s option afterwards as a single parameter:
#! /path/to/bin/atf-sh -s/bin/bash
ENVIRONMENT
ATF_SHELL Path to the system shell to be used in the generated scripts.
