Given a url how to get last part of file
HI,

I have a URL that points to a file:

Code:
LINK= "http://www.webpage.org/project/team2/file.tar"

However when I try to use wget on this variable I receive the following error.

Code:
wget $LINK

line 4:   http://www.webpage.org/project/team2/file.tar: No such file or directory
wget: missing URL

The only way I can avoid the error is if I use wget against the URL directly
Code:
wget  http://www.webpage.org/project/team2/file.tar

What I want to be able to do is two things:

1. Take a URL and use wget against it
2. Take the same URL and get the filename from it which in this case would mean printing "file.tar"

The reason that I mention the error is because I want to be able to assign the URL to a variable so I can use it in both cases because I do not want to have to input it twice.

NAME

       hxcount - count elements and attributes in HTML or XML files

SYNOPSIS

       hxcount [ file-or-URL ]

DESCRIPTION

       The hxcount command counts the number of elements and attributes of each type that appears in the input and prints a report on stdout.

OPERANDS

       The following operand is supported:

       file-or-URL
		 The name or URL of an HTML or XML file. If absent, standard input is read instead.

EXIT STATUS

       The following exit values are returned:

       0	 Successful completion.

       > 0	 An error occurred in the parsing of the HTML or XML file.  hxcount will try to recover from the error and produce output anyway.

ENVIRONMENT

       To use a proxy to retrieve remote files, set the environment variables http_proxy and ftp_proxy.  E.g., http_proxy="http://localhost:8080/"

BUGS

       Don't trust the output if there were errors in the input.

       Remote  files (specified with a URL) are currently only supported for HTTP. Password-protected files or files that depend on HTTP "cookies"
       are not handled. (You can use tools such as curl(1) or wget(1) to retrieve such files.)
