Unless you have (or want) to use awk, cut is easier:
Code:
echo 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 | cut -d, -f-4,7-

Or
Code:
% echo 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 | cut -d, -f5,6 --complement

with gnu cut.

I have a one-line command, lsusb | awk '{ $1=""; $2=""; $3=""; $4=""; $5=""; $6=""; print $0 }' It works, and gives the results I expect, I was just wondering if I am missing some easier way to nullify the first 6 column variables? Print selected parts of lines from each FILE to standard output. With no FILE, or when FILE is -, read standard input.
