Anyway, just wanting to know if someone can please explain what the dot (.) infront of the command or script does and why it works and does not work in the following?
Code:
server01(oracle)[]/u01/bin/oracle/server01$: db01env
ksh: db01env: cannot execute
server01(oracle)[]/u01/bin/oracle/server01$: . db01env
Set up for db01 database (using: /opt/oracle/9.2.0.7)
oracle:db01> ls -l /u02/bin/oracle/db01env
-rw-r--r-- 1 root other 1621 Jun 26 2005 /u02/bin/oracle/db01env
I did a which db01env and it says it is not found even though /u02/bin/oracle is included in the PATH environment variable. I believe this is because db01env is not executable and the which command only checks for executables, is that a correct assumption/guess?
Am not having issues at the moment but just curious how a single dot could make such a big difference that it can make or break stuff

I'm able to trim down the log message to "192.168.1.0.", but can't get rid off the last period.
Can any one help me on the syntax to get rid of the last period?
Basically, I want "192.168.1.0" instead of "192.168.1.0."

radsqlrelay - relay SQL queries to a central database server
SYNOPSIS
radsqlrelay [-?] [-d sql_driver] [-b database] [-f file] [-h host] [-u user] [-P port] [-p password] [-1] [-x] file_path
DESCRIPTION
radsqlrelay tails a SQL logfile and forwards the queries to a database server. Used to replicate accounting records to one (central) data-
base, even if the database has extended downtime.
The SQL logfile is created by the rlm_sql_log module. The module must be configured in the radiusd server before you can use radsqlrelay.
OPTIONS
-? Print usage help information.
-d sql_driver
Driver to use: mysql, pg, oracle.
-b database
Name of the database to use.
-f file
Read password from file, instead of command line.
-h host
Connect to host.
-u user
User for login.
-P port
Port number to use for connection.
-p password
Password to use when connecting to server.
-1 One-shot mode: push the file to database and exit.
-x Turn on debugging.
file_path
The pathname of the SQL logfile to use.
