Hi,
I have a problem with a Unix server we do not adminster but have an application running on.
The problem is that overnight, files in the /user4/work directory revert to root ownership. This causes problems as we cannot process the files.

Can someone explain the difference between backticks and system when
evaluated in these if statements:
sub getDate {

if ( system("/bin/date") ) {

Can this be done without using te system command? I have a directory with a large number of files in it, but I am interested in only the 8 most recent.
The directory looks like

I'm wanting to run an nslookup, dig or whatever to check for the existence of a printer. The PERL script will display the results on the screen, but I can't figure out how to capture the result & test the value. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated!!! Thank You (1 Reply)

What are the pros & cons, if any, between using Perl's copy module vs OS's system cp, for copying a file to another directory? Or are they exactly the same?

Last week, I created a new BE using lucreate which I was able to successfully boot from and has been working fine sinxe.
I now want to revert to the original BE but luactivate gives me these errors:
