Hopefully, this question is answered as well on your other post.

As a rule of thumb think of the single quote (') as a string were all the characters loose their extra special meaning, therefore, symbols like $,",*, etc, are interpreted by their face value at the shell.

my working shell is csh and even though if I try to run my script in plain sh, it behaves the same way. Issue nesting variables in csh.

httppower is a helper program for powerman which enables it to communicate with HTTP based power distribution units. It is run interac- tively by the powerman daemon. OPTIONS
