I am very new to this forum and also new to UNIX.
I am working on HP-UX machine. I noticed that for some of the users I am unable to insert the # character in a file in vi mode.
May I know y am I having the problem and how can I resolve this

Hi,
I've written a script to interrogate all fibre devices on our systems and output the WWNs to a file. I now want to insert a ":" every 2 characters into the WWN so I can write another script to create aliases within the SAN.

(1) I would like to know any unix/Linux command to check EOF char in a file.
(2) Or Any way I can check a file has been reached completely at machine B from machine A. Note that machine A ftp/scp the file to machine B at unknown time. (5 Replies)

Need your help on how to insert carriage return after the 10th char position of each line in a file and then add two blank spaces after the carriage return.
Example:

fssync-debug header -volumeid <volume ID> [-partition <exact partition name>] [-reason <sync protocol reason code>] [-programtype <program type code>] [-help] fssync-debug hea -v <volume ID> [-pa <exact partition name>] [-r <sync protocol reason code>] [-pr <program type code>] [-h] fssync-debug hdr -v <volume ID> [-pa <exact partition name>] [-r <sync protocol reason code>] [-pr <program type code>] [-h] DESCRIPTION
The fssync-debug header command retrieves volume disk data structure. OPTIONS
-volumeid <volume ID> Specifies the numeric volume ID. Volume names are not permitted. -partition <exact partition name> Specifies the exact partition name (e.g. /vicepa). Abbreviations are not permitted. -reason <sync protocol reason code> Specifies numeric sync protocol reason code. Available codes are listed in OpenAFS source file src/vol/fssync_inline.h. For SYNC_REASON_NONE, use -reason 0. -programtype <program type code> Specifies program type code. Permitted values are fileServer, volumeUtility, salvager, salvageServer, volumeServer and volumeSalvager. PRIVILEGE REQUIRED
