You use wrappers when you want to enhance the functionality of an existing utility/command without changing it (usually for backwards compatibility or because you don't have access to the original source code).
An alias is the simplest form of wrapper. You can create the following alias to always get a long listing from the output of ls:
A more complex example could be, lets say, you have a command which processes some sort of message passed as a command line argument:
Now, you want a functionality to pass a file with bunch of messages to be processed. You can write a wrapper which utilizes the existing process_msg utility to process multiple messages:
Hope that explains!

My IRC client does not support SSL, so I was wondering if there was any other way to encrypt the information between SSL clients on an IRC network, maybe by using SSH to enter the IRC program or something (it's a command-line program) and passing all the plain-text through SSH first. JAVA WRAPPER SERVICE DESCRIPTION
The Java Service Wrapper makes very easy to install a Java Application as a
daemon process on Unix systems. The Wrapper monitors a JVM (Java Virtual
Machine) process and automatically restarts it if it that the JVM has crashed
or hung. This process takes just a few seconds once the Wrapper has decided
there is a problem. It also gives the ability to handle process priority.
