I get a text file with 70+ columns (seperated by Tab) and about 10000 rows. The 58th Column is all numbers. But sometimes 58th columns has "/xxx=##" after the numeric data. I want to truncate this string using the script. Any Ideas...:confused: (3 Replies)

Is there any way we can achieve search & replace with awk?
I could achieve the same with sed in following way -
sed 's/A/B/g' file1 > file2
But the same regex if I try with using awk following way,
awk 's/A/B/g' file1 > file2

find . -type f -name "*.sql" -print|xargs perl -i -pe 's/pattern/replaced/g'
this is simple logic to find and replace in multiple files & folders

I have 2 files with huge data. I want to compare this 2 files & if they hav same set of vales in specific rows & columns i need to get that value from one file & replace it in other.

I have a xml file with many sets of records
like this

<tag2>data&</tag2>
also same file can be like this
<mytag>mydata</mytag>
<tag2>data&</tag2>
<tag3>data2&data3</tag3>

I need to replace dashes (i.e. -) if present from positions 351-357 with zero (i.e. 0), I also need to replace dash (i.e “-“) if present between position 024-043 with zero (i.e. 0) & I replace " " (i.e. 2 space characters) if present at position 381-382 with "04". fddist(1m) USER COMMANDS fddist(1m) NAME
fddist - file descriptor usage distributions. Uses DTrace. SYNOPSIS
fddist [-r|-w] DESCRIPTION
This prints distributions for read and write events by file descriptor, by process. This can be used to determine which file descriptor a process is doing the most I/O with. Since this uses DTrace, only users with root privileges can run this command. OPTIONS
-r reads only -w writes only EXAMPLES
Sample both read and write activity, # fddist Sample reads only, # fddist -r FIELDS
