Question Stripping characters from a variable
I'm using a shell script to get user input with this command:

read UserInput

I would then like to take the "UserInput" variable and strip out all of the following characters, regardless of where they appear in the variable or how many occurrences there are:

\/"[]:|<>+=;,?*@

I'm not sure how to do that, though. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Checking variable with specific string and stripping number from it.

NAME

       yodlstriproff - strip ASCII control characters

SYNOPSIS

       command | yodlstriproff > outputfile

DESCRIPTION

       The  yodlstriproff  program  is	a  very simple tool to strip ASCII control characters off a stream, so that only `bare' ASCII is left. The
       stripped control sequences are ^H (backspace) followed by any character; this mechanism is used to underline or boldface text on  terminals
       that support it.

       yodlstriproff is typically used with the Yodl converters yodl2msless and yodl2manless.
