In the terminal, using the ampersand allows the process to run in the background--Emacs, for example. But is there a way to automatically open Emacs as a background process so I can still use the command line? Typing the ampersand is just annoying to me, and I keep forgetting; it's just too useful... Hello everybody,
I have a Problem with sed command.
I want to replace a defined string with a string from a database field (dynamic).

For years I have spawned shell scripts with nohup and ampersand and they run whether or not I stay logged in. SYNOPSIS
irsend [options] DIRECTIVE REMOTE CODE [CODE...]
DESCRIPTION

REMOTE is the name of a remote, as described in the lircd configuration file.
CODE is the name of a remote control key of REMOTE, as it appears in the lircd configuration file.
NUM is the transmitter number of the hardware device.
For the LIST DIRECTIVE, REMOTE and/or CODE can be empty:

The SIMULATE command only works if it has been explicitly enabled in lircd.
