script submitted using ssh does not return to command prompt

Gurus,

I have written a shell script to backup a database and applications. This is how the script works:

1. As applications user (say applmgr), the main backup script, say backup.sh, is kicked off.

2. backup.sh does ssh to oracle user and kicks off the database backup using nohup and in the background (&).

This is where my problem is. After the backup is kicked off, the control is not being returned to the main script. Smilie

I have used both ssh and ssh -q but the problem persists.

Below are the sample scripts:

Code:

backup.sh
=======

ssh -q oracle@hostname "/u/oracle/backup_database.sh"

backup_database.sh
===============

nohup cp -Rp <datafile_directory> <target_directory> &

Any ideas/suggestions/tips?

Thanks in advance,

Regards,

Praveen

NAME
ssh-argv0 -- replaces the old ssh command-name as hostname handling SYNOPSIS
hostname | user@hostname [-l login_name] [command] hostname | user@hostname [-afgknqstvxACNTX1246] [-b bind_address] [-c cipher_spec] [-e escape_char] [-i identity_file] [-l login_name] [-m mac_spec] [-o option] [-p port] [-F configfile] [-L port:host:hostport] [-R port:host:hostport] [-D port] [command] DESCRIPTION
ssh-argv0 replaces the old ssh command-name as hostname handling. If you link to this script with a hostname then executing the link is equivalent to having executed ssh with that hostname as an argument. All other arguments are passed to ssh and will be processed normally. OPTIONS
