Help with pattern matching
I have a group of strings like:

[[something and something [[like this]] and this [[but]] here is [[what]].]] [[another big string [[with other]] substrings.]]

I need a regular expression/way to extract those strings like so:

Code:
string1 => something and something [[like this]] and this [[but]] here is [[what]].
string2 => another big string [[with other]] substrings.

I tried (PHP):
preg_match("/\[\[(.+?)\]\]/"...
but this obviously catches: something and something [[like this

I was looking for something simple and more elegant but of course I can solve the problem going from char to char and counting the number of open/close brackets to identify when they are really closed...

You can answer in any language...

       fstrcmpi - fuzzy comparison of two strings

SYNOPSIS

       #define FSTRCMPI_IDENTICAL
       #define FSTRCMPI_THRESHOLD
       #define FSTRCMPI_ERROR
       int fstrcmpi(const char *string1, const char *string2);

DESCRIPTION

       The fstrcmpi() function compares the two strings, string1 and string2.

RETURN VALUE

       The fstrcmpi function returns an int value between 0 and FSTRCMPI_IDENTICAL.  A value of 0 means the strings are utterly un-alike.  A value
       of FSTRCMPI_IDENTICAL means the strings are identical.  A value of more than FSTRCMPI_THRESHOLD (it lies between 0 and  FSTRCMPI_IDENTICAL)
       would be considered "similar" by most people.

       A value of FSTRCMPI_ERROR (always negative) indicates a malloc(3) failure.
