OpenSolaris is the OS from what the next Solaris release will be built. It is both a supported OS (latest stable release 2009.06, next one 2010.04) and a development (aka beta) release (dev builds every two weeks, latest is build 132).

Can we get the same full functionality as Solaris on SPARC in OpenSolaris ?
Even while some of them are backported, you'll have globally more functionalities and more recent userland with OpenSolaris than Solaris 10. Also, OpenSolaris now supports Solaris 10 zones, so most software not yet supported on OpenSolaris would install there.
I would definitely suggest you to go the OpenSolaris way.
