Thanks, here's what I got, it's definatly not pretty but does the job so far.

ls -lt | grep -v "^d" | awk '{print $9}' | grep . | sed -n "/$$END_FILE/,/$$START_FILE/p"

Any other thoughts?

This will exclude any line starting with a "d" - i.e a directory when doing a long listing (ls -l) or files, links, pipes, directories etc. whose names start with "d" when doing a short listing (i.e. ls -1).

Try:
Code:
ls -lt | awk '!/^d/ { print $NF }'

Setup ls -lt | awk '!/^d/ { print $NF }' | sed -n "/$$END_FILE/,/$$START_FILE/p" and it worked also.
