Don't get me wrong. I find make very handy. I really dislike
autotools, though, and so many IDE's are built on it... Generating the generated generated script generation scripts for the generation of makefiles is a very long, slow(most 'compilation' time is actually spent regenerating makefiles!) convoluted, and error-fraught process. Writing your own makefiles is easier.
