Operating Systems Solaris backup software Post 302339102 by choogendyk on Wednesday 29th of July 2009 06:46:35 PM

ufsdump/ufsrestore is native and works well for ufs file systems. Amanda uses the native tools, so they fit together just fine. If you want to do file system snapshots before doing ufsdump from within Amanda, see http://wiki.zmanda.com/index.php/Bac...yk.27s_Example.

However, if you are using zfs file systems, the game plan changes. ufsdump is not applicable. There isn't what I would call a perfect solution, but with Amanda, you have options. See Comprehensive Backup and Recovery for ZFS filesystems Zmanda Team Blog. I really like zfs, and have set up a J4200 with raidz2 and hot spares quite easily. But then I had to decide how to deal with backups.
