AWK to compare two files for each field value
I have "n" files in directory A and "n" files in directory B. The files are expected to be the same with same data. Each file has 14 columns and "x" rows. Of the 14 column, 2 columns are to be considered as key identifiers. Based on this unique combination, I need to compare each field value between the two files and report the difference.
Note: File in Directory A has values displayed upto 5 decimal places. But file in Directory B has some values displayed as scientific values, some whole numbers and some upto some decimal places.
I am a beginner with Bash and not sure on executing this.
Any help with code would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Hi,
I'm trying to compare the value in a field to the value in a variable using awk. This works:
awk '$7 == "101"'but this is what I want (and it doesn't work):
value=101
awk '$7 == "$value"'
Any help or insight on this would be great. Thanks in advance. (1 Reply)

tiffdump
tiffdump(1) User Commands tiffdump(1)
NAME
tiffdump - display verbatim information about TIFF files
SYNOPSIS
tiffdump [options] input.tif...
DESCRIPTION
tiffdump displays directory information from files created according to the Tag Image File Format, Revision 6.0. The header of each TIFF
file (magic number, version, and first directory offset) is displayed, followed by the tag contents of each directory in the file. For each
tag, the name, datatype, count, and values are displayed. When the symbolic name for a tag or datatype is known, the symbolic name is dis-
played followed by the numeric decimal value. Tag values are displayed enclosed in "<>" characters immediately preceded by the value of the
count field. For example, an ImageWidth tag might be displayed as "ImageWidth (256) SHORT (3) 1<800>".
tiffdump is particularly useful for investigating the contents of TIFF files that libtiff does not understand.
OPTIONS
The following options are supported:
-h Force numeric data to be displayed in hexadecimal rather than the default decimal format.
-o Dump the contents of the IFD at a particular file offset. The file offset may be specified using the usual C-style syntax,
that is, a leading "0x" for hexadecimal and a leading "0" for octal.
OPERANDS
The following operands are supported:
input.tif The name of the TIFF file.
