can u tell the difference between /var/log/syslogs and /var/adm/messages
in my working place i am having two servers.
in one servers messages file is empty and syslog file is going on increasing..

The /var/adm/messages in Solaris seem to log more system messages/errors compared to /var/log/messages in Linux.
I checked the log level in Linux and they seem OK.
Is there any other log file that contains the messages or is it just that Linux doesn't log great many things? (2 Replies)

Hello, I recently found that my /var/sadm/install/contents, ~/admin/default, /var/spool/patch and /var/spool/pkg files were empty.
This broke the pkginfo, pkgchk and other package related tools.
The pkgmap no longer points to where the applications have been installed.

i try to find way to make string concatenation in csh ( sorry this is what i have )
so i found out i can't do :

foreach line("`cat $source_dir/$f`")
$string_buff = string_buff $line
end

heterogeneity_test - a test for distinguishing between selection and population expansion.
SYNOPSIS
heterogenetity_test -mut_1/--mutsyn synonymous_mut_count -mut_2/--mutnon nonsyn_mut_count -s/--smaplesize sample_size [-i/--iterations
iterations] [-o/--observed observed_D] [-v/--verbose] [--silent ] [-m/--method tajimaD or fuD] [--precision]
DESCRIPTION
This is an implementation of the Heterogenetity test as described in Hahn MW, Rausher MD, and Cunningham CW. 2002. Genetics 161(1):11-20.
OPTIONS
Options in brackets above are optional
-s or --samplesize samplesize
-mut_1 or --mutsyn synonymous mutation count
-mut_2 or --mutnon nonsynonmous mutation count
-i or --iterations number of iterations
-o or --observed observed D
-m or --method tajimaD or fuD for Tajima's D or Fu and Li's D
-v or --verbose print out extra verbose messages
--silent Be extra quiet
--precision Level of precision - specify the number of digits
(default 4)
