I want to remove the commas that will come within double quotes ...
filed1, field2,field3,"fie,ld4"
i want to remove the comma in "fie,ld4" so that the output is
field1,field2,field3,"field4"
note : field name are just dummy that i am using , data can be anything in strings like
rahul,rohan,ansal,"bankofbaroda,dehi"
iwant to remove the comma in "bankofbaroda,delhi"

There is a ASCII file in which a comma is used as a seperator for the amount field when the amount exceed seven digits: e.g. 0001300,000. Now, this comma needs to be removed from this field, after padding leading zeros (to maintain the ASCII positions) e.g. 00001300000.... (1 Reply)

I get some flat files with trailer which gives the totol records count and i want to remove the trailer from the file.
i used the following command it works fine with a single file.
cat file_name | grep -v 'Total records:' > file1
mv file file_name

NAME
remove - remove file
SYNOPSIS

int remove(const char *path);
DESCRIPTION
The remove() function causes the file or empty directory whose name is the string pointed to by path to be no longer accessible by that
name. A subsequent attempt to open that file using that name will fail, unless the file is created anew.
For files, remove() is identical to unlink(). For directories, remove() is identical to rmdir().
See rmdir(2) and unlink(2) for a detailed list of failure conditions.
RETURN VALUES
Upon successful completion, remove() returns 0. Otherwise, it returns -1 and sets errno to indicate an error.
