I was wondering, how can I echo password using a character such as '*' in unix?
In my machine, password is not echoed, so it is only blank space when I enter any password.

So in my shell i execute:
{ while true; do echo string; sleep 1; done } | read line This waits one second and returns.
But
{ while true; do /bin/echo string; sleep 1; done } | read line continues to run, and doesn't stop until i kill it explicitly.

echo `echo ` doesn't echoes anything. And it's logic. But
echo `echo `echo ` ` does echoes "echo". What's the logic of it? the `echo `echo ` inside of the whole (first) echo, echoes nothing, so the first echo have to echo nothing but echoes "echo"

Normally, When we login a remote server, the password does'nt echo as anything. But When I use PieTTY(on windows) to login a linux ssh server, the password echoes as "*". But When I have logged in, I use the ssh command to login the same server locally again, now the password does'nt echo.

Hi
We send *.csv with sensitive data to our customers. Our customers open those files with Excel.
A new requirement is that we password protect those CSV files.
I thought to pack them with ZIP and assign a password to the archive.
But Solaris 10 can't encrypt ZIP files.
