Ok. I guess the only thing that changes is 0000043200 becomes 0000216000.
This might be a slightly long method. But should do.

ls > /tmp/file1
sed 's/0000043200/0000216000/g' /tmp/file1 > /tmp/file2
sed -i 's/^/mv /g' /tmp/file1
paste /tmp/file1 /tmp/file2 > /tmp/mvFiles.sh
sh /tmp/mvFiles.sh
sheesh!! thats a lot! there must be simpler ways to do that!

I want to rename multiple files at a time and I don't know how to do it.
I have various ".mp3" files, like "band name - music name.mp3" and I want to remove the "band name" from all files.
Anybody knows how to do it using shell script or sed or even perl?

I have several hundred files in one directory which I need to move to another directory with the new extension, for example:
/bb/data/rptmgr* are in the source directory need to be moved to
/bb/data55/rptmgr*.new

SYNOPSIS
zcmp [options] file [file2]
zdiff [options] file [file2]
DESCRIPTION
zcmp and zdiff are filters that invoke cmp(1) or diff(1) respectively to compare compressed files. Any options that are specified are passed
to cmp(1) or diff(1).
If only file1 is specified, it is compared against a file with the same name, but with the extension removed. When both file1 or file2 are
specified, either file may be compressed.
Extensions handled by gzip(1):
o z, Z,
o gz,
o taz,
o tgz.
Extensions handled by bzip2(1):
o bz,
o bz2,
o tbz,
o tbz2.
Extensions handled by xz(1):
o lzma,
o xz,
o tlz,
o txz.
ENVIRONMENT
TMPDIR Directory in which to place temporary files. If unset, /tmp is used.
