Thanks - but I get the same result. The existing directory has a date of July 28 and the one I am copying has today's date. After I issue the cp command you provided the dir still has a date of July 28. Do I need to delete the old directory first?

Procedural style

Resets the current date of the DateTime object to a different date.
PARAMETERS
o $object
-Procedural style only: A DateTime object returned by date_create(3). The function modifies this object.
