but not everything is a regular file.
-e return true (and ! reverse the result) if there exist something named a.log
-f return true (and ! reverse the result) if there is something named a.log and is a regular file,such as a text file or a binary, what most people think of as normal files.
ehe may i know what are the difference between Unix & Linux, and what are the advantages of having Unix as well as disadvantages of having Unix or if u dun mind i am dumb do pls tell me what are the advantages as well as the disadvantages of having linux as well. thanks (1 Reply)

How can view log messages between two time frame from /var/log/message or any type of log files.
when logfiles are very big and especially many messages with in few minutes, I would like to display log messages between 5 minute interval.
Could you pls give me the command? (1 Reply)
I would like to write a shell script that calculated the time difference bettween the log entries. If the time difference is higher as 200 sec. print the complette lines out.
My Problem is, i am unable to jump in the next line and calculate the time difference.

SYNOPSIS

DESCRIPTION
cleans the STREAMS error logger directory of log files mm-dd) that contain error messages sent by the STREAMS log driver, strlog(7). If
the option is not used to specify another directory, removes error log files in the directory. If the option is not used to specify
another age, removes error log files that have not been modified in three days.
Options
recognizes the following options and command-line arguments:
Specifies a directory for the location of the
STREAMS error log files to be removed if this is not the default directory
Specifies a maximum age in days for the
STREAMS error log files if this not the default age of 3. The value of age must be an integer greater than or less than 3.
EXAMPLES
Remove day-old error log files from a directory called
FILES
One or more error log file or files on which operates. The mm-dd in the filename indicates the month and day of the messages con-
tained in the file.
