To find out if you have enough diskspace you do not need to know the size of your actual LVs but the size of your disks. Issue "lsvg rootvg" and "lsvg -p rootvg" to see how much diskspace you have:
"lsvg rootvg" will tell you the PP size, "lsvg -p rootvg" will tell you how many PPs on all the disks in the rootvg exist.
If you have a mirrored rootvg (this is not shown in the "df -k") you can consider a "alternate disk migration". In short this is: split the mirror of the rootvg, update the one while retaining the other as a backup copy. In case everything works fine remirror the newly installed half, otherwise remirror the withheld half. We have some threads here regarding alternate disk migration, you might want to read them and ask if you have questions regarding this.
Having not much time right now i have to stop here. Maybe someone else can explain the firmware update procedures (preferably in detail, so we could turn that into a FAQ), otherwise i will come back to this later.
I hope this helps.

Hi
Can I add disks on the fly to extend the capacity of an existing RAID 5 volume?
It's created on a 4P Advanced SSA Raid Adapter.
I need to extend a volume group, so I figured it would be easiest to extend the "physical disk" which is a RAID5 volume.
Thanks. (1 Reply)

I have an interesting problem. Using remote queues to print using jetdirect printers I am unable to get a printer to print multiple copies of a print job.
command being used:
lpr -P -#3 ./test
(one copy prints)
Also tried:
enq -P -C3 ./test

Any ideas?

dgcfgbackup
dgcfgbackup(1M) dgcfgbackup(1M)
NAME
dgcfgbackup - create or update VxVM volume group configuration backup file
SYNOPSIS
/usr/sbin/dgcfgbackup [-f dg_conf_path ] dg_name
DESCRIPTION
The dgcfgbackup command saves the VxVM configuration for a disk group in a default or alternate configuration backup file (see the descrip-
tion of the-f option).
By default, dgcfgbackup is run automatically each time that a VxVM command changes the VxVM configuration. In this case, it always uses
the default configuration backup file. An existing default configuration backup file is renamed with an extension of .old.
Options and Arguments
dg_name Specifies the name of a disk group.
-f dg_conf_path
Saves the configuration using an alternate file name specified by dg_conf_path. If this option is omitted, the default file name
is /etc/vxvmconf/dg_name.conf.
EXIT CODES
dgcfgbackup exits with a zero status on successful completion. An non-zero exit status indicates that errors occurred when information
from the disk group was being accessed.
EXAMPLES
Back up VxVM configuration information for disk group testdg in the default backup file /etc/vxvmconf/testdg.conf:
dgcfgbackup testdg
Back up VxVM configuration information for disk group datadg in the alternate configuration backup file /tmp/datadg.backup:
dgcfgbackup -f /tmp/datadg.backup datadg
NOTES
It is recommended that any alternate configuration backup file be created in the root file system (as is the case with the default path
name). This facilitates disk group recovery during maintenance mode, such as after a system crash.
AUTHOR
dgcfgbackup was developed by the Hewlett-Packard Company.
