Sounds like you need to write a short shell script, and save it in a directory which is in your $PATH variable (or add the directory to $PATH). If the 'traffic' process always has it's log in the same location, I don't think you would need to search for the pid of the program. In your shell script you would just use something like
...where /var/traffic_log.log is your logfile.
If this doesn't make much sense, please give some more information on what you're trying to do.

I have a global variable "period" which i want to pass to f3 .
Can i pass the variable directly in the definition of f3 ?

SYNOPSIS
script [-a] [filename]
DESCRIPTION
The script utility makes a record of everything printed on your screen. The record is written to filename. If no file name is given, the
record is saved in the file typescript. See WARNINGS.
The script command forks and creates a sub-shell, according to the value of $SHELL, and records the text from this session. The script ends
when the forked shell exits or when Control-d is typed.
OPTIONS
The following option is supported:
-a Appends the session record to filename, rather than overwriting it.
NOTES
script places everything that appears on the screen in filename, including prompts.
