Using cut

I use
variable=`cut -f3 -d":" myfile`

myfile contains one record
field1:field2:/value1/value2/vlue3:field4,field5

variable returns value1value2value3 so I loode the /
I use cut because I had problems using awk -F

Either way any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
