Can you probe the cdrom drive from the ok prompt?
Sounds weird... maybe the drive is faulty?? Smilie maybe get it replaced first, then cont with your installation. To confirm the issue, re-seat the cables internally within the h/w and check again if the drive opens automatically again, if yes, then replace the cd/dvd drive first.
