estimating memory usage by database processes

Hi Guys,

I wonder what would be the best way to determine how much memory is in use on any given time by the database processes. I thought about using ipcs -m command but I wonder if there any better way to determine this. Thanks.

Memory usage in Solaris - memory not freed?

Hi, I'm running a multi-process software system on a Solaris 8 machine. When I monitor the memory usage, I see that the free memory is dropping rapidly, but I can't detect a process that uses this memory. I'm using "top" to get the free memory and the memory usage of processes. Thanks. (3 Replies)

Hi, i have 2 identical web servers using AIX. I use nmon analyser to check their performance. The server A exceeds 20% memory usage for system, 5% for cache and the rest 75% for processes. While, it uses 4% of Paging Space. The server B exceeds 20% for system, 45% for cache and 35% for processes.... (24 Replies)

ipcs [resource-option] [output-format] ipcs [resource-option] -i id DESCRIPTION
ipcs provides information on the inter-process communication facilities for which the calling process has read access. OPTIONS
-i, --id id Print details only on the resource identified by id. -h, --help Display a help text and exit. -V, --version Display version information and exit. Resource options -q, --queues Write information about active message queues. -m, --shmems Write information about active shared memory segments. -s, --semaphores Write information about active semaphore sets. -a, --all Write information about all three resources (default). Output formats Of these options only one takes effect: the last one specified. -c, --creator Show creator and owner. -l, --limits Show resource limits. -p, --pid Show PIDs of creator and last operator. -t, --time Write time information. The Linux ipcs utility is not fully compatible to the POSIX ipcs utility. The Linux version does not support the POSIX -a, -b and -o options, but does support the -l and -u options not defined by POSIX. A portable application shall not use the -a, -b, -o, -l, and -u options. AUTHOR
