the problem is that the output of find is beeing interpreted by awk as the text to filter, not the files to open with the text inside.
you have to do something like this

find . -name 'ABC*' | wc -l
The output of the above command is 25 as expected
In path /home path ran the following command
find . -name '/home/etc/files/ABC*' | wc -l
