In the dos/windows environment line-endings are terminated with a combination of a carriage return (r) and a newline(n), also referred to as CR/LF. In unix/linux line-endings are terminated with a newline (LF)
As era mentioned you can use a tool like dos2unix to remove the carriage return, an alternative is:

What I have by that reading - just a first word up to '\0'!
