i used reanme a.txt a_%date%.txt ......but its done nothing
am using win2000 professional edition.
system date format is : The current date is: Mon 2008-05-12

I have file called xx
Now i want to rename this file as xxYYYYMMDD_HHMIAM.xls
Here is my code..
export DATE1=`date +%Y%m%d`
mv xx xx$DATE1
This code renames as xxYYYYMMDD
Now how can i append HHMIAM at the end of the file?

/ab/cd/a.dat i need to copy this file to the another directory /ef/gh/.

i try to set linux date & time in specific format but it keep giving me error
Example :
date "+%d-%m-%C%y %H:%M:%S" -d "19-01-2017 00:05:01"
or
date +"%d-%m-%C%y %H:%M:%S" -d "19-01-2017 00:05:01"
keep giving me this error :

-s Set the time (implicit for -q or a date string)

DESCRIPTION
With the -q flag or a numeric argument, date sets the GMT time and date. MMDDYY refers to the month, day, and year; hhmmss refers to the
