copy column to another file
Hi guys,

I want to use a quick one liner that can copy an entire column, and add it to a new file as another column. I've tried using cat, but that only appends my column to the bottom of the file.

So now, my first file(file1) looks like this:

1995060101 8
1995060102 6
1995060102 10

and so on, down through 2007123124. I want to take the second column, and add it to a new file(file 2), which currently looks like this:

1995060101 4
1995060102 3
1995060102 15

So in the end, I want file 2 to look like this:

1995060101 4 8
1995060102 3 6
1995060102 15 10

I've tried looking around the forums for help, but most of the copy column info seems to be about replacing current columns with others, not so much appending them.

NAME

     colrm -- remove columns from a file

SYNOPSIS

     colrm [start [stop]]

DESCRIPTION

     The colrm utility removes selected columns from the lines of a file.  A column is defined as a single character in a line.  Input is read
     from the standard input.  Output is written to the standard output.

     If only the start column is specified, columns numbered less than the start column will be written.  If both start and stop columns are spec-
     ified, columns numbered less than the start column or greater than the stop column will be written.  Column numbering starts with one, not
     zero.

     Tab characters increment the column count to the next multiple of eight.  Backspace characters decrement the column count by one.

ENVIRONMENT

     The LANG, LC_ALL and LC_CTYPE environment variables affect the execution of colrm as described in environ(7).

EXIT STATUS

     The colrm utility exits 0 on success, and >0 if an error occurs.
